Do I need to wear sunscreen in the winter?

The short answer is Yes!

In the winter you still need to wear your sunblock or sunscreen. Even though we’re not getting as much UV rays, your sunscreen that you use daily helps with keeping your moisture level inside your skin. Your SPF also protects you from bacteria and what we call TEWL (trans epidermal water loss). Essentially, it prevents the environment from drawing out your moisture especially when the air is drier outside. Not wearing SPF in our winters here is an equation to draw out the moisture from your skin. The same goes for the opposite season. When you are in humid weather, your skin feels super hydrated because your skin is pulling that moisture from the atmosphere. Overall, SPF added to your daily routine will protect your skin from that UV-A rays that causes aging and protect your skin from being dried out in the dry winter air.

Winter Tip: Use a humidifier in your bedroom to help prevent TEWL while you’re sleeping as well as using a product that helps to give your skin a little bit of a protective barrier.
